Nicolas Jaar - Pomegranates (2xLP)
Nicolás Jaar (b. 10 January 1990) is an American experimental electronic musician, record producer, composer, DJ, and mixing engineer based in New York. His father is an architect [a=Alfredo Jaar]. He co-founded [url=https://discogs.com/artist/2522005]DARKSIDE[/url] band in 2011 and has been releasing music under various aliases, most notably [url=https://discogs.com/artist/3754267]Against All Logic[/url]. Jaar established two record labels, [url=https://discogs.com/label/245486]Clown & Sunset[/url] (2009–2013) and [l=Other People] (since 2013).
In 2008, the same year he enrolled into [l=Brown University], Jaar presented his 12" debut, [r=1298485], on the Brooklyn-based label [l=Wolf + Lamb Music]. (Nicolas graduated in 2012 with a degree in comparative literature.) Nico Jaar remained active on the NYC underground dance scene, producing multiple "disco edits" and "reworks" during the [i]nu-disco[/i] resurgence in the early 2010s, with some tracks included on [r=2989464] 12" and [r=2943126] digital compilation. The aspiring artist came to prominence and widespread critical acclaim after his debut full-length album, [m=305947] CD/LP, came out on [l=Circus Company] in 2011. Nicolás Jaar appeared on [l=BBC Radio 1]’s iconic weekly show [l=The Essential Mix] in May 2012, and [url=https://discogs.com/release/14754170]his selection[/url] was voted "Mix of the Year."
Besides producing several studio albums and numerous EPs, Nicolás Jaar composed a few film soundtracks: [r=15114168] (2015) crime drama directed by [a=Jacques Audiard], which won [i]Palme d'Or[/i] at the Cannes Film Festival, [url=https://discogs.com/release/19894675]Ema[/url] (2019), for which Jaar earned the "Best Score" award at Miami International Film Festival, and Georgian-French drama "Beginning" (2019) by Déa Kulumbegashvili. Jaar commissioned remixes for various prominent artists, such as [a=Brian Eno], [a=Grizzly Bear], [a=Ellen Allien], [a=Matthew Dear], [a=Architecture In Helsinki], [a=Cat Power], [a=Chet Faker], [a=Shlohmo], [a994835], and [a=Lydia Lunch].
